Triggers are actions that can be set to occur automatically against the creation, deletion or updates of specified Types. In practice, this type of combined process is usually handled straightforwardly and potentially more flexible within action script, but it is nevertheless available on the platform as an automatic Trigger if required. In the example below, a Trigger is being set up in the Logic Layer of the builder to send a welcome email to a person whenever a Person is added to the system. Using the “Triggers” dialogue box, add the Title of the Trigger (in this case “Send Email to New Person”), select the Type (in this case “Person”), select the Action script which sends the mail (“send email to new person”), and finally select the trigger Event, in this case “CREATE” (the other events are UPDATE and DELETE). When saved, this trigger will now automatically run the action script set in the “Action” field whenever a Person record is created on that application.
